Wilner David is a 3-year-old boy who lives in Cartagena with his family, who day by day face with love, bravery, and hope the challenges brought by his health condition.
His mother recalls that during pregnancy she constantly attended all her medical checkups. Although it was classified as a high-risk pregnancy, the ultrasounds and follow-ups showed normal results, so they never imagined the difficulties that would appear at the moment of birth.
It was at that exact instant when doctors detected that Wilner had been born with a very low cephalic measurement, which is why he was immediately transferred to the neonatal unit to undergo various medical studies. He remained hospitalized for ten days while specialists evaluated his health status and the scope of his diagnoses.
Over time and during his growth, the family began to notice that Wilner showed little body movement and significant difficulties in head control. He was later diagnosed with microcephaly and cerebral palsy, conditions that have completely transformed the family dynamics and the care needs within the home.
Currently, his mother performs stimulation exercises at home with the objective of strengthening his physical development and supporting his rehabilitation process. However, the family’s economic conditions are limited, making it difficult to constantly access therapies, specialized equipment, and appropriate spaces for his care.
