Alejandro's Story

Living Location: Bogotá

Martín Alejandro Vásquez is 17 years old and lives in Bogotá with his mother and his little brother Emmanuel, who also has a disability. His greatest company has always been his family, who surround him day by day with love, care, and hope.
When he was little, Martín walked, ran, spoke, and enjoyed his childhood like any other child. However, at the age of 5, he underwent a complete callosotomy due to refractory epilepsy, a surgery necessary to control the seizures he suffered from. Although the procedure helped his condition, it left him with quadriplegia as a consequence, which completely changed his life, limiting his mobility and making him dependent on a wheelchair.
Since then, his family has fought tirelessly to provide him with the therapies and care he needs. He currently performs passive exercises at home, but requires a constant rehabilitation process that allows him to maintain and improve his quality of life.
Despite the difficulties, Martín retains a joy that inspires. He deeply loves music, enjoys games with sounds, loves to be sung to, likes going out for walks, and experiencing new things. Every melody, every voice, and every moment shared with his family fills his world with happiness.
His mother dreams that Martín can access more rehabilitation opportunities that will allow him to strengthen his capabilities and continue enjoying what he loves so much.

Every song is a reason to keep dreaming

A story of resilience, love, and hope
