From his very first days of life, Dilan Samuel has shown admirable strength.
Shortly after birth, he suffered a brain hemorrhage that triggered a complex diagnosis of hydrocephalus, accompanied by epilepsy and other neurological lesions that marked the beginning of a long road of hospitalizations, surgeries, and rehabilitation.
During his first month of life, he underwent his first surgical intervention and, over time, needed a total of ten surgeries to control the accumulation of fluid in his brain. On two occasions, the drainage valves stopped working, causing meningitis and forcing his family to once again face moments of uncertainty and deep fear.
Fortunately, since his last surgery, Dilan has managed to remain stable. However, he continues to present reduced mobility and a developmental delay, which is why he requires ongoing rehabilitation processes to strengthen his capabilities and promote his autonomy.
Dilan lives in Bogotá with his parents and his sister, who have turned every challenge into an opportunity to keep fighting for his well-being. His family describes him as a deeply loved child, who has been eagerly awaited and accompanied with dedication since the first day of his life.
He currently attends preschool and continues to participate in the therapies he receives through his healthcare provider (EPS). In addition, his parents perform the exercises recommended by rehabilitation professionals at home, convinced that consistency and love are fundamental to his progress.
Today, their greatest wish is to have a Home Rehabilitation Gym, a tool that will allow Dilan to continue doing his exercises daily in a safe environment, strengthening his posture, his mobility, and increasing his opportunities to achieve one of his family’s biggest dreams: to see him walk one day.
