Maria's Story

Living Location: Boyacá

Good afternoon, my name is Mayra Alejandra Ramírez and I am the mother of María Victoria Mejía.

Our journey began when my daughter was three and a half months old, which was when she started having seizures. For this reason, I took her to the hospital, and later we were referred to the city of Tunja. There, they conducted several studies, such as MRIs and biotelemetries, based on which she was diagnosed with West syndrome.

Since then, we have gone through multiple medical processes, genetic studies, and therapies. Initially, she received therapies at home, but currently they have been suspended. We live in a municipality in Boyacá, where the healthcare system is quite limited. The available therapies are very basic and are not focused on neurological rehabilitation processes, but rather on simpler cases like fractures.

For this reason, when I learned about the therapeutic gym, I found it to be a very valuable tool. It is practical, accessible, and I have seen how it has significantly helped other children. Therefore, I wish for my daughter to also benefit from this support.

Victoria is diagnosed with West syndrome, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy, which has caused a delay in her motor development. My daughter does not crawl, walk, or speak. She remains lying down, and although she has some movements, she cannot sit up or stand on her own.

As a mother, I only wish to provide her with better opportunities and tools that will allow her to improve her quality of life.

Victoria deserves more opportunities to move forward

A mother who never stops looking for opportunities for her daughter
