Matias's Story
Living Location: Bogotá, Colombia
Deivy Matías is a 3-year-old boy who lives in Bogotá with his mother and siblings. His story began to change from a very young age, when he suffered a respiratory arrest caused by aspiration, a situation that led to a severe brain injury and subsequently the diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
From that moment on, his life and his family’s life completely transformed. His mother, Ana Lucía, has taken on Deivy’s care and guidance entirely on her own since the boy’s father passed away when he was just two months old. Since then, she has faced major economic, emotional, and physical challenges to raise her children and guarantee Deivy the therapies, care, and attention he needs daily.
Despite the difficulties, Deivy is a boy full of tenderness, love, and strength. His smile has become the greatest motivation for his family, who celebrate every small milestone as an enormous victory. His mother dreams of seeing him grow, grow stronger, and achieve greater independence in his rehabilitation process.
Currently, at home they perform physical stimulation and rehabilitation activities using mats, therapeutic rollers, posture exercises, muscle strengthening, and stretching recommended by his therapists. All of this is done with the hope of improving his mobility, strengthening his muscles, and promoting his physical development.
